Sooner or later, every owner on the site has such a situation when it is necessary to remove a pole from the ground. But how best to do it if the pillar has a concrete base in addition to it. In fact, all that is needed is "golden hands" and a car jack. Here's a way to fix the problem in less than an hour.
Instruments
To remove the post from the ground along with the concrete base, you will need some tools: a car jack and blocks of wood. Large, long bolts and a saw will come in handy. In general and in general, finding all the necessary tools is not difficult. No special gadgets are required for extraction.
Extraction technique
In order to remove the post from the ground along with the base, first you need to cut it down so that its height does not exceed 1 meter. Now, to the remaining clean, you need to attach a block to which our jack will rest. It must be securely fixed. Best for two hefty bolts.
Now you need to prepare the support for the jack. It must necessarily rest on free ground and be at some distance from the concrete base. To create it, you can use several bars. It should be taken with a margin, since it will gradually be necessary to increase the height of the base.
The rest of the technology for extracting the pillar is extremely simple. We put the jack on the base and bring it under the emphasis, we begin to raise. After a while, when the upward movement of the pillar becomes too difficult, we remove the jack and increase the height of our stand. We put a jack - we twist. This procedure should be repeated to the bitter end.
This is a great way to remove the post along with the concrete base with little effort. This method can be quite suitable not only for wooden, but also for steel poles. To conserve your strength and create a powerful pulling force, a car jack will be used.
We take out the post along with the concrete base
We cut the pillar, leaving it about a meter high. Of course, it is not necessary to do this, but in the future it will be more convenient to work with the part that will be taken out of the ground.
From the sawn-off part, we cut off a block and drill two holes in it.
Use a clamp to temporarily attach the bar to the post.
Through the same holes, we will continue to drill the post itself. Of course, everything can be drilled at a time, but it may not be very convenient.
Next, we hammer studs on wood, or long bolts.
We prepare a base for supporting jacks from a thick board. The support should rest on free ground, at some distance from the concrete base.
We put a bar. It must be reliable and can withstand significant forces without excessive deflection.
We put the jack and rest it on the screwed block.
As the post comes out of the ground, we put in the bars, since the jack's stroke at one time will not be enough.
We bring down the jack, repeat the procedure.
The pillar can be seen coming out. Next, add more bars.
As soon as more than half of the concrete base has come out of the ground, the post can be piled on its side.

After the post, there is one fairly equal groove, which, by the way, can be reused.
I personally really liked the simple method of uprooting the fence posts without any extra effort.
As for steel structures, the steps are the same, except that welding can be used instead of drilling and bolting.
As you can see in this example, the concrete base looks like a cone, which greatly facilitated the task. If the base is made a step with an increase to the bottom, then this method is also quite suitable. Except that in this case, the pillar will have to be pulled out to the very end.
Before screwing the piles for the new house, Alexander Turkovsky had to dismantle the old building. The most difficult part was removing the concrete pillars of the old foundation. An automobile winch helped out.
It was almost impossible to pull out the concrete blocks of the columnar foundation by hand. We decided to use a car winch, but for this it was necessary to think about how to grab the post itself, as well as what to hold on to with the winch. I wrapped the posts with a steel chain, which I once bought for rigging. Loop closed with a carbine. But the idea of what to catch on to the winch did not come immediately.
Give me a foothold
I used the technique recommended for pulling a car out in an open field where there is no support. It is as follows. The shovel is driven all the way into the ground. Due to the large area of the bayonet, the shovel in this situation plays the role of a kind of anchor. To further strengthen the position of the shovel, the top of the handle is tied with a rope to another support (for example, to the base of a smaller shovel), and if the soil is weak, then the top of the handle of the second shovel is tied to the next shovel. This creates a fairly reliable support for the winch.
Iron "hand"
The first column got out of the ground well, but I had to tinker with the second. I stuck the shovel just behind the concrete path, which turned out to be a good stop, but the handle of the shovel broke because of the too high position of the cable hook. I had to make a shovel specially for this work with a handle made of a steel pipe. It turned out to be a heavy, but durable tool, not suitable for digging the earth, but at the same time successfully helping to pull out the posts.
Additional tool
Sometimes it turned out that the line of the ropes did not coincide with the direction of the chain, then the shovel began to fall to the side. Since the lateral force is relatively small, it is easy to compensate for it with a simple support.
I must say that it is difficult or even impossible to do without an additional tool. With a sledgehammer I hammered shovels into the ground. I used a narrow shovel and a garden scoop to remove soil around the post, and with an ax with a pipe welded to it, I used a concrete block.
You can work alone
It is, of course, more convenient to pull out the blocks together, but it turned out to work with the winch and wagon alone. I pulled the winch cable up to the stop, and then helped to move the block with the wagon. Then the cycle was repeated until the moment when the column crawled out of the ground to such an extent that the winch traction was enough.
I must say that I do not use the car winch in the normal mode. Usually the cable is doubled to make a chain hoist, but I refused this to increase the length of the cable. As practice has shown, the efforts of the winch in this mode are quite enough.
