Spruce "konika" - planting and care

Hi all! Coniferous plants are often used for landscape design, and the so-called decorative Konika spruce is no exception. This dwarf tree is of extraordinary beauty and can decorate any site. A lot has been said about the positive features of this plant, but you will learn how to properly plant and care for it below.

Choosing a place to land

In order for the conic spruce to find its best qualities, to be bright and “bushy”, it is best to choose a slightly shaded (but not completely shady) place for planting it, and protected from the wind. Of course, the “conic” will grow in the shade, but over time it will lose its decorative effect, it will develop poorly and lose the splendor and brightness of the needles.

As for the soil - it should be nutritious and loose.

So - it’s worth paying attention to the fact that the horse does not tolerate excess water, therefore, in areas where water stagnates for a long time or ground aquifers do not lie deep, it is not recommended to plant it.

spruce planting

3-4 year old seedlings are suitable for planting.

Planting can be done from early spring to late autumn including the summer months. But there is one thing, but, in summer, spruce can be planted only with a closed root system, i.e. with a clod of earth in which it grew, in addition, if you planted a tree in the summer, then it must be periodically sprayed with water until it takes root.

There is nothing complicated in the landing itself and you just need to follow a few simple steps:

  • Dig a suitable hole.
  • Pour a bucket of well-rotted manure mixed with sand into the hole;
  • We plant a seedling and apply up to 80 g of a wide range of fertilizers intended for coniferous plants;
  • At the final stage, it is recommended to mulch the ground around the seedling with peat with a layer of 5-6 cm.

Tip: Loosening the soil around the "conic" is highly discouraged, because the root system of this plant has a superficial location and there is a high risk of damage.

Care and illness "Koniki"

The main advantage of Konik spruce is that it is very unpretentious and practically does not need care. The only thing you need to do regularly is water it. So - in dry times, it is recommended to spray needles 2 times a week. It is not necessary, but it is possible to produce spring feeding at the end of May, the introduction of 5 - 7 kg of well-rotted manure will be enough.

Although “Konika” is a frost-resistant spruce variety, in order to protect the branches from burning, it is best to cover the plant with cardboard or burlap for the winter, carefully tying the whole tree with it, except for the lower part of the crown, so we will prevent the debate branches. But if you still forgot or did not want to cover the plant, and the branches are burned, do not rush to cut them off, they may go away in the spring.

So, we have analyzed the main points on planting a "conic" spruce and subsequent care for it. The only thing that we have not touched on is the pests and diseases that can affect it and how to deal with this scourge.

The main and most common "sores" of this variety are as follows:

Tracheomycosis- the most dangerous disease that cannot be cured. If you notice that the needles on the branches began to turn red and fall off, do not hesitate to dig up the tree for a long time and immediately burn it. Because this sore can spread to the nearest bushes.

Rust- manifests itself in the form of orange growths on the branches, the needles on the affected branches turn yellow and fall off. Fortunately, Vectra and Glycodin help very well with this disease. Spray the branches with these preparations 2-3 times a day no more than once a week.

Shutte disease- this sore manifests itself in the form of blackening and white plaque on the needles, the affected needles crumble over time. If you are faced with this disease, then it is well “treated” by spraying the plant with a 3% solution of copper sulphate and subsequent treatment with Alirin - B.

In addition to diseases, the Konika spruce is also affected by pests:

beetle- if you notice that in many places the bark of your tree is damaged, then you can safely dig up and burn the plant, because it was the bark beetle that tried to get rid of.
