We fix the ceiling plinth: the secrets of the right angles without using a miter box. Slicing a ceiling plinth: how professionals do it How to make an obtuse angle from a ceiling plinth

Skirting boards for ceilings are cut in many ways, but professionals use a miter box. This is a carpentry fixture, which is a tray with slots on the sides. A hacksaw is inserted into them, and a board, lining, baseboard and other materials that need to be cut at a certain angle are placed at the bottom of the tray.

How to trim a ceiling plinth?

Finishing finishing work in the house, many homeowners are faced with the problem of cutting ceiling skirting boards, especially their corners. Indeed, the attractiveness of the interior depends on them. Without these decorative elements, the rooms look unfinished. It’s not difficult to figure out how to cut a ceiling plinth using a square, a metal ruler or an even bar, because here you only need to maintain a right angle.

But in the finishing work requires trimming the skirting boards and at other angles, such as 40 degrees. Therefore, the installation of these plastic elements is fraught with certain difficulties. To get the appropriate angle, you need to be extremely careful. One of the problems is cutting the ceiling in the corners with further joining.

The following materials are used in the manufacture of skirting boards:

  • Wood. Wood is considered the most time-consuming to process material. Wooden baseboards sawed with a joiner's hacksaw.
  • Extruded polystyrene foam. High density finishing material. Does not absorb moisture. When burning toxic substances does not emit. Processing it is quite difficult, but cutting is easy. To do this, you only need a carpentry knife.
  • Styrofoam. It is a fragile, cheapest and easily processed material. Its fragility is not a disadvantage, since skirting boards are located under the very ceiling and are not afraid of mechanical influences. Ceiling skirting board can be cut from polystyrene without any effort.
  • Polyurethane. Differs in plasticity and flexibility. Due to these qualities, it is used on uneven surfaces. It has water repellent properties and is resistant to temperature changes.
  • PVC. Complicated material due to increased rigidity. Manufacturers offer it different types of finishes: imitation stone, metal, wood and uniform color. In the cold, it becomes brittle.

Decorative elements made of aluminum look no less attractive under the ceiling. True, it’s much more difficult to process and cut metal than materials from the proposed list. The increased demand for aluminum skirting boards is due to the fact that they are cable channels in which it is convenient to hide wiring and cables. Equally important is aesthetics, not responding to aggressive environments and detergents.

Cut the aluminum skirting board with a hacksaw for metal. In order not to break the canvas, the reciprocating movements should be smooth and uniform.

Regardless of the material of manufacture, ceiling plinths can be considered the best solution for creating a unique interior. They are mounted on the most difficult site, which is the junction of the wall and ceiling. Anyone who knows how to properly cut a corner on a ceiling plinth will quickly make the interior of the room complete, which will give it more attractiveness. Using these elements, you can partially hide minor defects.

The cutting tool is selected depending on the material and the required angles. In rooms of standard forms with perfectly even walls and ceilings, a miter box is used to cut the corners of the ceiling skirting. Wood is sawn with an ordinary carpentry with a hacksaw, and for other materials a jigsaw should be purchased. You can also use a hacksaw for metal. To adjust the angles manually, you will need additional tools: ruler, square, protractor, pencil.

Trimming the skirting board using a miter box

Work with this device is performed as follows:

  • We fix the miter box on the workbench, put a decorative element in the tray and press it to the bottom and to one of the walls. Only in this case, you can correctly cut the corner on the ceiling skirting.
  • The wood is cut with an ordinary hacksaw. Insert it into those slots, thanks to which you get the desired angle. Hold the cutting tool perpendicular to the cutting element. The inner as well as the outer corner of the ceiling skirting board is also cut with the help of a miter box.
  • For cutting strips of expanded polystyrene, it is better to use a carpentry knife or a jigsaw.
  • It is not recommended to use force during cutting. The blade should move smoothly, otherwise it could damage the decor or completely deform the product. Foam baseboards are cut with a jigsaw with the smallest teeth. A knife for this work will not work, as the material will crumple and crumble.

Correctly cutting off a ceiling plinth where custom angles are required is quite difficult. After all, the miter box is not designed for this. If there are no skills, then dents may remain on the products. They close up with finishing putty, and then painted in the desired color.

The main difficulty is that when cutting it is necessary to maintain the required angle, otherwise when closing two skirting boards, an obvious gap will be visible between them. Many owners do not even pay any attention to it and are absolutely not upset. They simply putty and paint over all the cracks. And since it is difficult to choose the exact shade of paint, the whole atmosphere in the room will not be overshadowed by the aesthetics of the appearance of decorative elements.

We suggest watching a video on how to cut corners on ceiling skirting boards. Cutting using a template allows you to make a clear end without the slightest deviation. Processing decorative elements without a miter box is also possible, but provided that a person has a certain skill and is able to use other auxiliary tools: a square and a protractor. Using them, it will not be difficult to trim the ceiling plinth with non-standard angles.

By the way the miter box can be made independently  at home. To do this, you need three identical planks, 15 cm wide, approximately 50 cm long and 1-2 cm wide. The last two parameters have no special meaning, so you can choose them arbitrarily. We put together a tray from these parts. It resembles a box without ends and a lid. Then, using a protractor on the side planks, mark the necessary angles with a pencil. Further, according to these marks, make a slot with a hacksaw to the very bottom. Two boards should be cut at the same time.

You should know at what angle to cut the ceiling skirting, so make these corners in the planks of the miter box.

If you cannot make such a device, then use another method. In this case need hard cardboardfrom which you can cut a pattern with the necessary angles. For this work, you also need a protractor. If angles of 45 and 90 degrees are required, then you can use an ordinary angle. It is much simpler and faster than building a miter box. Take the cardboard, mark and cut out the template of the desired shape. Now it remains only to attach it to the baseboard, leave a strip of pencil on it and cut off the ceiling baseboard at 45 degrees.

Professional craftsmen begin the installation of decorative elements from the corners, and then proceed to install skirting boards on straight sections. Your attention to the video, how to cut ceiling skirtings in the corners, as well as how to install them.

These products are the final finishing elements. They serve for facing joints of ceilings and walls. In addition to masking rude pairing with their help, they are in perfect harmony with any style. The wider the baseboard, the more streamlined the interior looks. For stretch ceilings, such decorative elements are required. They ideally hide the mounting gap between the wall and the frame.

Perhaps, from this article you understood how to correctly join the ceiling plinth in the corners and how to fix it on straight sections. When choosing such products, they are guided by a simple rule: the higher the wall, the wider the baseboard should be. However, the wider, more heterogeneous, and harder it is, the more difficult it is to cut it. Therefore, for such work it is necessary to prepare absolutely sharp cutting tools. You can try them on the scraps of decorative elements. This will be a kind of training, which in work will avoid excessive pressure. As you know, dents remain in polyurethane and PVC, wood chips are peeled off from the wood, and the polystyrene crumbles.

Colors and decor depend on the style of the room. A huge variety of width, texture and color, makes it possible to select the best option for a country house or apartment. When installing these elements, the main thing is to cut them correctly. See the photo on how to cut a corner on the ceiling plinth and you can do this job yourself.

The product is cut and fixed in the corners if a fragment of the bar for fasteners cut at the right angle has already been prepared, as well as a decorative element that is mated with it. If during the cutting of the skirting board the internal angle turned out to be inaccurate, then you can ignore this. The main thing that the front side was clearly docked. It is not recommended to fasten joints to painting. Rough plaster is better for this.

Summing up, it can be noted that cutting ceiling skirtings is possible without the involvement of specialists. The main thing is to be attentive and do the work thoughtfully and without fuss.

The miter box usually looks like a tray with vertical holes for a hacksaw. It can be made of wood, metal or plastic. This tool represents the oldest and simplest carpenter tool designed to cut wooden parts at 90 ° and 45 °. There are types of such devices for professional work, with a rotary mechanism, in them the cutting tool can be rotated and fixed in any position.

  How to properly cut the ceiling skirting

Ceiling corners are divided into internal and external, the method of docking on them is slightly different.

If necessary, you can make a miter box with your own hands. To do this, you need three trim from plywood or boards of the same size. First, they are applied in the form of an inverted letter “P” and mark the corners. Then, according to the marking, cuts are cut out under the hacksaw almost to the very bottom, and the boards are twisted.

Inside corner

    • Making the right measurements.
    • We install the plinth strip in the miter box so that this position exactly matches the placement on the ceiling.
    • The baseboard must be pressed firmly against the opposite wall of the miter box. Hold and hold with your free hand.
    • We put a hacksaw at an angle of 45 ° in a special hole and cut off the part.

  • An adjacent part must be cut in the same way, only in a mirror image, as shown in the photo.

When cutting soft materials (PVC, polystyrene foam) use a hacksaw for metal or a conventional construction knife. Then the work will be neat and with even edges.

Outer corner

  • The length of the plinth is measured from the nearest wall to the outer corner, the line is left on the inside with a pencil, indicating the desired length. It should be noted that the edge (its upper part) should go out a little.
  • The baseboard is moved into the miter box and cut.
  • The adjacent bar also needs to be measured with a margin and cut in mirror image to the first part.

We try on the ceiling plinth: the joining of the parts should be perfectly even. If the result is not achieved and there are irregularities at the joints, you can trim the edges with an ordinary knife to the perfect fit.

  We check the smooth docking

The video describes all the nuances well:

The second way - without additional tools

For the inner corner, you can use the simplest method of perfect joining - by marking on the ceiling. Another example of how to cut a corner is beautiful and even.

    1. Apply the fillet to the ceiling, tightly pressing its even edge into the corner.
    2. Draw a line along the long side of the baseboard on the ceiling.

    1. The same action is done with an adjacent part on the other side.

    1. Mark the point of intersection of the lines.

The result is an even angle of 45 ° if you draw a line from the intersection point to the edge of the part. Note that the above marking method works only with perfectly even angles.

other methods

With a good eye and accuracy of hand action, you can use a home-made template that resembles an imitation of a miter box. To do this, take a thin board or dense plywood and draw a layout in the form of a horizontal rectangle. Using a protractor, 45 ° is noted on the right and left side of the rectangle. Draw lines connecting the opposite edges.

  Now you can cut off the ceiling skirting board using this layout. The actions are simple and similar to the description above in the first embodiment. Only the ceiling parts should not be inserted, but superimposed on the drawing and combine the hacksaw with the layout of the layout.

  Special accessories for docking

By installing ceiling skirting boards, you can get around the question of how to cut a corner side. In a situation where you don’t want to cut anything, if you are a woman and love beauty, not carpentry, you can go the other way. We advise you to choose a skirting board for your decoration, to which you will find a part matching the drawing in the store that covers the joint. This method will save time and effort.

During the repair at home, we try to improve the room and make it as attractive as possible. When installing the skirting board in the gap between the ceiling and the wall, the question arises of how to cut an angle on the ceiling skirting board so that it acquires an attractive appearance - the sharp changes in space do not look very pleasing to the eye. We will deal with this issue in detail. Before you make the outer corner of the ceiling plinth, you need to decide on the chosen type of baguette. They differ in the materials from which they are made.

Kinds

Ceiling decorative elements are made of various materials:

  • Styrofoam.
  • Polyurethane.
  • Polystyrene.
  • Polyvinyl chloride.
  • Gypsum.
  • Wood.

You should purchase those types of baguettes that suit you best. It all depends on what loads the decorative element will have to endure during installation and operation - temperature, chemical attack, humidity, shock. Many people pay attention to the price, but this should not be done, saving money, of course, will save your budget, but will not help to create an attractive appearance.

A foam plinth is considered the most budgetary, but the quality of this material leaves much to be desired.  It is able to crumble when trying to bend, and even during slicing. Polyfoam easily burns and collapses due to the effects of solvents that are found in some types of building adhesives. For that, its installation is simple and in itself it is easy.

  Strong material is also polystyrene. It has a matte surface and a clear relief when compared with polystyrene foam. It is difficult to deform with careless movement, and it practically does not burn. A skirting board made of polystyrenes is simply cut using an office knife. But it is also able to break if it is bent strongly.

The most durable are baguettes made of polyurethane.  Due to the fact that it contains rubber, this material has high ductility and with its help it is easy to create bending decoration details. It does not absorb water like polystyrene and is recommended for use in kitchens, bathrooms and even in car washes.

  Baguettes made of polyvinyl chloride are also popular, and all thanks to the low price and a wide range of colors. The gluing of a PVC baguette is simple, it is lightweight and quite durable.

Ceiling plastic skirting boards are easy to cut, so the corners are even and easier to combine with each other on the walls near the ceiling. But the most durable and durable material for skirting boards is wood.

  Although the tree does not bend as simply as the previous types of baguettes. Installing wood baguettes is difficult, as it requires jewelry calculations. Still wood requires a certain treatment with antiseptics and paint. You can’t stick wood like plastic; to install it you need dowels and screws. The outer corner of the ceiling plinth will be difficult to cut from wooden decorative elements.

Miter box

We will figure out how to properly cut the ceiling skirting. In any case, for greater convenience, cutting all types of baguettes requires a miter box. It allows you to make precise cuts and correctly cut corners.

Miter box - This is a special carpentry fixture that allows you to cut the plinth and other elements at an angle of 45 and 90 degrees. The miter box can be aluminum, plastic or wood. In advanced models of the miter box, there is the possibility of cutting at an angle of 60 degrees, or the possibility of an adjustable swivel mechanism. This is convenient if you need to trim the skirting board to bypass an unusual angle.

You can cut the skirting for the ceiling without a miter box, if the accuracy of the eye can allow. But as soon as it comes to corners, it becomes a lot of complexity. At first, it seems that you can cut the angle of 45 degrees yourself, but after a couple of attempts you will see that it is difficult. Before you cut the ceiling in the corners of the room, you need to make accurate measurements and layout.

Note! If you do not know how to properly cut a corner on the ceiling plinth and are afraid for the result of work, then you should contact a specialist for help.

Cut corners on the ceiling plinth

We will figure out how to properly cut the ceiling plinth using a miter box:

1. Apply the baguette to the ceiling to measure the required length, make marks before cutting off the corner of the baseboard.

  2. Insert the baguette inside the miter box, in a position that matches the position on the ceiling. The baguette should be pressed against the far wall of the miter box, in relation to you, for convenient cutting and accurate measurements. We select the position according to the miter box at 45 degrees, insert a hacksaw or knife, depending on the tool used.

Advice! Cut the workpiece, do not press hard on the tool

3. We proceed to cutting the second part of the corner, insert the second piece of the plinth into the miter box to the far wall. We cut off the corner in the miter box using a knife or a hacksaw.

  4. We fix the corner of the plinth on the wall.

  In fact, cutting the baseboard at 45 degrees with the use of a miter box is simple. In the role of a miter box, you can use the means at hand, and what kind of thing is your fantasy. With the help of a miter box, it is easy to make both the inner corner of the ceiling plinth and the outer one.

Special corner elements

In building stores you can find special skirting boards for corners, which are already cut in the right shape and configuration. Of course, you should measure the angle of the ceiling in advance and select decorative elements according to the markup on paper, so it will be more convenient and there will be no chance of an error.

Often the corner skirting boards are larger in size and volume of the skirting boards that you will install, so they will noticeably stand out against the background of the overall decoration of the gap between the ceiling and the wall. If the design of the room allows you to use such elements for corners, then feel free to get them - installation will become much more convenient and easier.

Installation and painting

  • Before starting the installation, all necessary measurements should be made and marking in accordance with the intended work plan. Marking should be done with a pencil on the walls and baseboards, take measurements using a tape measure and a square.
  • After the marking on the skirting boards is done, proceed to cutting. Cut baguettes best with a miter box, a hacksaw or a knife. The knife is suitable for both shoe and clerical. Cut carefully, do not press hard on the cutting tool so as not to damage the baguette. Before you make an angle on the ceiling skirting, you need to cut the main structural elements. When all the elements are cut and ready, assemble the structure on the floor to check the presence and accuracy of all parts of the decoration.
  • After all the skirting boards and elements are ready for installation, you can proceed with the installation. You can use any adhesives, but we recommend liquid nails, they not only fit all types of skirting boards, but also perfectly grasp and hold for as long as possible. After that, you should process the skirting boards and paint them, if planned.

Advice! You need to glue the baguettes against the wall if you do not want to damage the ceiling and its design does not provide for such installation work. When the whole process is over, all the flaws are easy to fix with putty.

  Is a corner design. Joining the trims in such places must be done very carefully, otherwise the appearance of the decor will be hopelessly ruined. Of course, pretty aesthetic special corner elements can be used.

However, planks that are naturally docked usually look more harmonious. Yes, and spend money on additional details in this case do not have to. Therefore, further in the article we will consider how to cut the corner of the ceiling plinth correctly and how to process the seam.

Trimming the skirting board

Ceiling skirting boards are made from a wide variety of materials - polystyrene foam, polyurethane foam, plastic, wood. To trim them, the tools available in each house can be used. Styrofoam strips are cut with scissors or a knife. A wooden skirting board is cut with a hacksaw on a tree. How to cut a plastic baseboard is also not a question. You can saw it with a regular hacksaw for metal.

Pruning of a wooden skirting board is done with a conventional hacksaw.

What is a miter box?

For accurate and most accurate cutting of ceiling skirtings, a special tool is usually used - a miter box. It is a tray, shot down from three boards. In its walls there are slots located at a certain angle to the axis (45, 60 and 90g, etc.). They are designed to guide the hacksaw blade when trimming. You can buy a miter box for the ceiling plinth in a hardware store.

Trimming slats at an angle of 45g do in the miter box

Trimming the skirting board in the miter box

Trimming in the miter box is performed as follows:

  1. The right strip is laid in the tray from left to right with the wrong side to the bottom (the part that will subsequently adjoin the ceiling). Part of the wall adjoining should be leaned against the side board of the tray (closest to you);
  2. The bar is firmly pressed against the tool and cut through the slot.

How to make a corner of a ceiling plinth

Important:   When trimming, it should be remembered that when designing the internal corner, the edge of the skirting board adjacent to the wall should be longer than the one adjacent to the ceiling. When finishing the exterior - on the contrary.
  1. A second ceiling strip is inserted into the tray from right to left and trimmed;
  2. Ready-made slats are attached to the corner and adjust the junction with a knife;

Planks are set to the corner, and adjustment is performed

  1. How to join the corners of the ceiling plinth? You can do this from a stepladder right on the wall. But this is not too convenient, therefore, experts advise polyurethane and foam elements to combine and glue with each other on the floor with special glue for joints.

The angle is best glued before installing the baseboard on the walls

How to trim the baseboard:

What to do if there is no miter box?

Thus, we have figured out how to sew a ceiling plinth (the video above will probably help someone figure this out better) using a miter box. But what if this tool is not at hand? In fact, adjusting the trims is even possible without using it. There are two main ways to solve this problem: marking right on the wall and making simulations of the miter box.

In the first case, the procedure is as follows:

  1. The left lane is firmly pressed against the ceiling;
  2. With a pencil, line 1 is drawn on the ceiling along its upper edge;

How to cut a ceiling skirting board without a miter box. Draw the first line

  1. Next, the right ceiling element is attached to the ceiling and line 2 is drawn;
  2. In the place of suppression of the edge of the right bar with line 1, a mark is put;

A second line is drawn and a mark is set on the baseboard

  1. Next, the left element is again attached to the ceiling;
  2. At the intersection of its upper edge with line 2, a mark is also placed;
  3. Now on each strip you need to connect the marks with the end of the bottom edge of the baseboard;

Then, along the resulting line, the skirting is actually cut at an angle.

Without using a tray, the mounted strips in the corner can be quite neat

In order to cut an even angle, you can also use the simulation of the miter box:

  1. On a smooth plywood sheet, draw two strictly parallel lines;
  2. We put a point on one of them and with the help of a protractor we connect it to the second line at an angle of exactly 45g (we draw to the left);
  3. At a distance of 10 centimeters to the left of the first point, put the second;
  4. We connect it with the second line at an angle of 45g (we draw to the right).

How to cut a corner of a ceiling plinth using imitation miter box

An impromptu miter box is ready. Now it remains to attach the right ceiling element (the wrong side) to the right with the lower edge to the line closest to you and cut it off. The same with the left bar (only apply it on the left).

Tip:   You can cut polystyrene boards with a knife. However, sharpen it properly. Otherwise, the material at the ends simply crumbles.

How to connect the trims if the angle is uneven

In urban apartments, and especially in old ones, the walls are rarely even. Therefore, the angles between them are often not straight at all. How to gash the ceiling skirting in this case?

In fact, it is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. You just need to measure the angle. To do this, you can use the special tool malka or just make a template out of paper and use the protractor.

An uneven angle can be measured using a small goniometer

The resulting angle is divided into two, we draw the corresponding "miter box" on plywood and cut the strip. Next, you just need to connect them to the glue.

How to finish the corners

How to cut the corner of the ceiling baseboard, we have figured out. Now let's see how to finish the joints. How to cover the joint in the corner? In the event that there is a small gap left, the seal can be done by ordinary putty to the color of the plinth. Joints can also be passed with silicone sealant.

The gap between the strips in the inner corner can be putty putty

Important:   Only internal corner can be repaired with putty or sealant. The outdoor should be customized as carefully as possible. It will simply be impossible to remove even a small gap in the future unnoticed here. Especially when the baseboard is wide.

Corner elements for ceiling skirting

Trimming of ceiling strips when using corner elements (special connectors) is also usually performed in the miter box. How to cut the trims in this case? Everything is very simple - cutting is done at right angles. If there is no tray, you can use a conventional protractor or square. Corner elements (photo):

When using corner elements, strip trimming is done at right angles.

How to trim floor skirting

Skirting boards can be made of PVC, polyurethane, wood or MDF. Just as in the case of a ceiling plinth, they need to be cut depending on the material with a regular hacksaw (wooden) or a hacksaw for metal (plastic).

Now you know how to cut a ceiling plinth. Next, we will see how the fitting and trimming of the floor is performed. How to use the miter box in this case? When trimming the floor plinth, the procedure is approximately the same as when painting the ceiling. For the inner corner:

  1. We take the first strip and put it in the tray from right to left so that it lies in it the same way as on the floor. We lean it against the far wall of the instrument as against a wall;

The strip is inserted into the tray and pressed firmly

  1. We trim the unnecessary piece from the left end at an angle through hole 1 (figure below);
  2. We insert the second strip from left to right in exactly the same position and cut from the right end through hole 2.

How to trim the baseboard in the corner, if it is external:

  1. Insert the first strip into the tray in the same way as for the inner corner (from right to left);
  2. We trim it from the left end through hole 2;
  3. Insert the second bar from left to right and trim its right end through slot 1.

How to cut ceiling skirting for exterior and interior corners

Tip: The butt at an angle of 45g should be done not only in order to cut the elements in the corners, but also to make joints on the wall itself. In this case, the connections will not be so noticeable.

Thus, we have examined in the most detailed way how to cut a skirting board in corners. The procedure is not as complicated as it might seem at first glance. Having started pruning in the miter box or using its imitation, you will see for yourself.

How to make a corner on a ceiling plinth so that it looks neat and beautiful on any profile? This is not an easy task for beginners, since far from every skirting board can be joined as it would be desirable. Are there any rules and secrets of excellence for experienced professionals?

In this article you will find answers to the most common questions asked by beginners:

  • how to join a ceiling plinth;
  • how to make the inner corner of the ceiling plinth;
  • how to join ceiling plinths in the outer corners;
  • how to fit the baseboard if the walls are joined in a non-standard way.

So, first things first.

The methods of joining moldings depend on the material, as well as on its decorative features. For example, it is advisable to mount an array on hardware. The large weight of the profile with an impressive width of the product will require the use of appropriate screws. Glue solutions in this case will be unreliable. It is a completely different matter when it comes to a foam or gypsum profile. These are quite light and easily processed planks that perfectly adhere to glue and putty.

When combining two or more strips, it is necessary to take into account the mating angle. On flat areas, docking at 90 and 45 degrees is used. In the first case, the molding simply cuts, and in the second - it is trimmed according to the template or with the help of a miter box.

Trimming taking into account the internal and external angle using a miter box

If there is a relief or printed ornament, care must be taken to ensure that the image is aligned symmetrically. In this case, you will get a harmonious transition from one site to another.

How to properly join a ceiling plinth if it has a complex relief or a printed ornament? When making a cut, be sure to consider the features of the relief and print. Use the mirror to find the area that gives the most beautiful combination of the picture. To do this, put the mirror on the bar at the desired angle and move it along the plinth to the right and left until you are satisfied with the result.

Remember that in straight sections the joints are usually not particularly difficult, so start work from the corner. In this case, the installation will look neat and professional.

How to connect the ceiling plinth in the corners so that it looks beautiful? There are two ways to do this:

  • using a template or miter box to saw off the fillet;
  • use factory cast elements.

Corners for ceiling skirting boards are usually sold with fillets. You can choose any number of straight and angular elements for your project. At the same time, keep in mind that when you are dealing with angles of more or less than 90 degrees, the factory elements will have to be slightly modified and sized.

It is important to have with you!

  1. Template. On a sheet of cardboard, draw a straight line along which the workpiece will be laid. With a pencil or marker, put a dot on it. Then, using an ordinary school protractor, designate angles of 90, 45 degrees. Draw straight lines through the marks so that when working with a saw you can clearly see them and it is easy for you to navigate;
  2. miter box. It can be purchased in a store or built from a plank and a pair of bars. A DIY tool is no less convenient than a factory-made tool. However, there are also universal miter boxes, in which it is possible to measure any angle and evenly make a cut of the workpiece.

Inside corners

How to join the ceiling plinth in the inner corners with a simple relief? To do this, prepare a suitable tool.

To cut the foam profile, you can use a hacksaw for metal or a hot nichrome wire. Hot fitting is good because the wire thread makes a cut quickly, almost instantly, without leaving any burrs or rough edges.

For laminate, plastic, as well as gypsum, a metal sheet is suitable. Small teeth will avoid unnecessary chips on the skirting boards.

Inner corner slice

How to file a profile at an internal angle? Such angles have one feature. They are formed by elements in which the lower edge is longer than the upper. That is, when you attach them to the ceiling, the lower one will be pressed against the walls, and the upper one will retreat inward. It turns out that the upper perimeter of the baseboard will be smaller than the lower.

Based on this, when washing down, it is necessary to shorten the ceiling part of the fillet.

Corners for the ceiling plinth greatly facilitate the task. They already have the necessary shape, so it’s enough to dock them in a straight section with fillets. For plastic corner models, an overlap joint is used, while for other materials the technology makes it possible to make a joint on latches.

External slices

How to join ceiling skirting boards at external corners? The outer corner is formed by shortening the lower edge of the profile, because the upper perimeter will be larger than the lower.

The corner for the ceiling plinth is selected in accordance with the size and shape of the fillet. Use items from the same collection and party.

Non-standard situations

Often bay windows cause installation difficulties. In them, the walls are joined at obtuse or acute angles, for which suitable finished elements may not be found. Such, from the point of view of European-quality repairmen, the wrong site can cause a lot of trouble and spoil all the work. So, how to make the outer corners on the ceiling plinth in this case?

Stupid

In this case, the joining of the ceiling plinth in the corners is complicated by the fact that the finished internal elements will protrude several millimeters from the wall. It is ugly and spoils the whole look. What can be done?

There are some simple solutions:

  • foam and plastic skirting boards to heat with a hairdryer until soft, then give them the necessary shape, deploying them “shoulders”;
  • gypsum models cannot be fixed, therefore, the side elements are adjusted through the gash at a given angle, and on the back side the material is slightly shrunk so that the fitted joint looks good.

Acute

How to make the angle of the ceiling plinth less than 90 degrees? You can adjust the corners in plastic models in the same way as described above. That is, using cuts and heating. It must be borne in mind that stiffeners interfere with the bending of the part during heating. Therefore, they need to be trimmed as necessary. For external pairing, it is simple enough to make an incision, and for the internal one it will be necessary to remove part of the partitions so that they do not interfere with the correct shift of the “shoulders” of the corner.

Rounded

How to join the corners of the ceiling plinth when forming curved shapes? To make rounded corners, you need to break the arc into several sections. Their number depends on the radius of bending and the length of the arc. Cut the required number of short fragments from the fillet and combine them into one structure using the connecting elements included in the kit. Or just cut them at the required angle, if you have not a plastic, but a foam or gypsum profile.

It is possible that plastic will simply not want to connect with each other. We'll have to cut the stiffeners back a bit.

How can work be facilitated?

Use cardboard layouts. If this is your first experience, then a full-size cardboard layout will not hurt. It is quite simple to make. But he will clearly show how to make corners for ceiling plinths of any size.

Attach a sheet of paper to the ceiling using masking tape. Outline the angles of how they actually look. Remove the sheet, and based on the measurements taken, make a template from thick thin (not corrugated) cardboard, plywood or fiberboard. It will help you adjust the angles as accurately as possible.

The joint of the ceiling plinth itself may not fit exactly due to the existing irregularities of the wall. Minor flaws are remarkably masked either with a putty mixture or with a suitable sealant. However, the joint of the ceiling plinth will look impeccable if you use a special tool.

In the case when you need to make repairs yourself on a large area, it makes sense to rent or borrow a miter saw for a while with a turning platform that allows you to set any angle of the thread in the vertical and horizontal plane.   With its help, cutting can be done in a matter of minutes.  The main thing is to correctly measure the angle at which the walls and ceiling meet. The saw is set in the desired position and cut is made. Fast and convenient. At the same time, there are no rigid frames, like a miter box. And you can set any angle value.

How else can I get the necessary foam blank? You will need a tool called a string. It consists of a power supply, as well as a nichrome thread, stretched over the table at a suitable height. In this case, the workpiece is placed on top of nichrome according to the marking on the plinth itself or on a flat template under the string. The ceiling of the skirting board is cut like butter, and the question of how to make corners of a non-standard size or shape loses its sharpness.

As you can see, you can create a beautiful transition from wall to ceiling in any situation, using various tools, as well as the knowledge you have gained.
