How to make door slopes with your own hands. Do-it-yourself plastic slope installation: installation options and methods What material is needed for door slopes

Recently, I learned in detail what the door slopes are and what they are after I installed the door. The fact is that if you order the installation of entrance or interior doors, masters often just do their job, not puzzled by what you will do with the slopes.

And here there are two options: hire a team of finishers and pay them decent money for a trivial job, or do the door slopes with your own hands. I chose the second option, and frankly, I encountered certain difficulties.

I hope this article will help to avoid my mistakes and to do everything efficiently and reliably.

Door Slope Finish

After the installation of the interior doors was over, and I wanted to relax, it turned out that there was such a thing as door slopes, and they looked very impartial after installation. Leaving them in this state means spoiling the whole look of the house.

The question arose - how to fix them. Two options immediately came to mind:

  • Plaster and then paint.
  • Make the door slopes of the laminate, which remained after the repair.

Both options are equally practical, but installing a laminate requires at least a small crate, which is not always possible to install, especially if the opening is already narrow. In this case, the plastering of door slopes is an ideal option that does not require large financial costs and special skills in construction.

But first things first.

Plaster

Before proceeding to the description of the process of plastering the slopes on the door, it is necessary to understand why this method is better than others, and why it should be preferred. As you know, everything has its pros and cons. Stucco is no exception.

Benefits

  1. There is no need to install a crate that hides the width of the opening, which is especially true for interior doors.
  2. You can fix the slopes on the doors yourself, without involving builders and, accordingly, additional costs.
  3. The relatively low cost of all necessary materials and tools.
  4. The whole process will take only a few hours, even if there is no relevant experience.

Well, now a little about the negative side of such door slopes.

disadvantages

  1. After plastering, door slopes require an additional coat of paint.
  2. The aesthetic component leaves much to be desired.

Honestly, I was looking for the negative side for a long time, but I didn’t find it, so we’ll dwell on what is and move on to the installation process.

Plastering slopes

Plastering door slopes, like any other repair, requires the preparation of materials and tools to facilitate this moment, we list all that we may need.

Tool:

  • Putty knife.
  • Construction level.
  • Grout with fine sandpaper.
  • Paint roller or primer brush.
  • A screwdriver, if installation is carried out under "beacons".
  • Trowel for initial surface leveling.

Materials:

  • Plaster mix. It is advisable to take ready-made so as not to waste time independently mixing cement with sand.
  • "Lighthouses", enough for two on each slope.
  • Decorative corners that match the color of the design of the room.
  • Soil impregnation antibacterial.

So, let's begin. First of all, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the surface of the slope from possible contaminants: dust, dirt.

Important! The unpurified surface does not adhere well to the mixes and within a few months the plaster will begin to fall away.

Next, primer the surface with a roller or brush. Do not regret the primer, as they say - you can’t spoil the porridge with butter. Moreover, cold bridges are always formed near the door, which can lead to condensation.

The primer should be allowed to dry well and only then proceed with the installation of the “beacons”. By the way, if you have skills in plastering, then you can do without them. Lighthouses are installed along the edges of the slopes and are fixed to the wall using self-tapping screws or dowels.

After this, the plaster mixture is prepared, or rather, it is simply diluted with water in the proportions indicated on the package.

The plaster is applied with a spatula to the entire slope from the bottom up. And with the help of a trowel, which they lean against two lighthouses, and remove the excess mixture.

The leveled layer of plaster is left to dry completely, and only after that the surface is smoothed with fine sandpaper.

Now it remains to make a decorative coating and set the corners. On this installation can be considered completed.

Laminate

Making slopes for doors with a laminate is a bit more complicated than just plastering. Installation takes place in two stages:

  1. The manufacture of the crate.
  2. Laminate installation.

The list of tools is even shorter than when working with plaster.

  • Screwdriver.
  • Hammer.
  • Glue for fixing decorative corners.

Materials:

  • Laminate.
  • Dowels.
  • Wooden block.
  • The corner is decorative.
  • Wood or plasterboard screws.

Advice! if the slope width does not exceed 20 cm, then the laminate can be installed in length. If the panel is already sloping in width, then the installation will have to be done horizontally from small segments.

Lathing

A wooden beam is best suited for these purposes, since it is thinner than a metal profile and the opening will not lose much in size. The timber needs to be treated with impregnations as well as the wall itself. This will protect the tree from decay and significantly extend the life of the finish.

The beam is fastened to the wall with dowels in increments of about 50 cm, there should be two such guides, one on each side of the slope, but if the opening is very wide, then you may need to install a third beam in the middle.

After the crate is ready, you can proceed to the laminate.

Laminate installation

Installation of door slopes from the laminate starts from the bottom up. The first segment is installed to the floor with a minimum clearance of 2-3 mm, since the laminate does not have thermal deformation, this is quite enough. Further, the whole process is no different from floor mounting. Segments are interconnected in a lock and snap into place.

The segments are attached to the crate by screws to the very edge, then the hats will be closed with decorative corners.

Advice! Before attaching the laminate to the slope, it is advisable to pre-drill holes for self-tapping screws, since the edge of the laminate can crack or flatten.

After all the panels are fixed, you can put the corners. The easiest way to attach them to glue is the easiest and most reliable way.

Conclusion

Having figured out the question of how to close up the slopes after installing the entrance or interior doors, you can safely get to work. Of course, there are many other ways to do this, but the option described in this article is the least expensive and probably the simplest.

As a rule, repair in an apartment affects almost everything. It may include replacement of windows and doors.
For the doors to look neat, you need to finish the slopes from the inside of the front door with high quality.

Since it is possible to maintain one and the same temperature regime indoors, the decoration of the entrance doors from the inside can be done with any finishing material.
To do this, very often use:

  • Plastic panels.
  • Siding.
  • Stucco.
  • Decorative rock.
  • Wooden lining.

Front door trim with plastic panels

At the moment, plastic panels are very popular. All this is due to their high technical characteristics.
They are quite easy to attach to give a neat appearance to any surface.
Plastic properties:

  • Practicality.
  • Durability.
  • Easy installation.
  • Easy to clean.
  • Moisture resistant.
  • Not subject to temperature changes.
  • Resistant to high temperatures.
  • Do not fade in direct sunlight.

But that's all the properties that plastic panels have. In order to fix them on the surface, it will not be necessary to level it first, which cannot be said about the use of decorative stone in the decoration of doorways (see. Beautiful decoration of doorways with decorative stone).

Installation of plastic panels on the internal slopes of the front door

To install PVC panels on the slopes of the front door, you will need some tools and additional materials:

  • Wooden bars.
  • Wood screws.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Plastic panels.
  • Internal plastic corners.
  • External plastic corners.
  • Sealant.
  • Construction stapler.
  • Starting guides.

For reference. Plastic is considered a universal finishing material that can be used in any interior.

So:

  • Plastic is attached to the crate. Initially, it will be necessary to evaluate the surface, if there are significant irregularities on it, then they are eliminated with a spatula or sandpaper to ensure that the crate is evenly mounted on the surface.
  • The lath for the installation of plastic panels is made of wooden blocks. Each element of it is fastened to the other with the help of screws and a screwdriver.

After the entrance doors are installed in the apartment or house, ensuring the safety of housing, it is necessary to complete the finishing work. Outside, the entrance doors are ennobled with platbands, and if there is damage to the wall, then they are sealed with mortar. From the inside, everything must be done beautifully, and to hide irregularities, slopes are performed. You can make them on your own, there is nothing complicated. It is necessary to choose the material, and then perform all the work in accordance with the developed technologies.

Features of the slope of the entrance doors

If the doors are installed by professionals, then finishing the slopes is not their responsibility. You have to either pay extra for such work or do it yourself. If you look at the sequence of finishing, you can cope with it without any problems.

The slopes of the entrance doors not only allow you to give a beautiful and finished look to the entrance to the apartment or house, but also hide the attachment points of the door frame, thereby increasing protection against burglary. In addition, properly executed slopes help to insulate the entrance doors and increase their soundproof characteristics.

Even the most expensive and beautiful doors will look unsightly if there are no slopes at all or they will be executed sloppy. When making this element, it is necessary to take into account both the material of the door leaf and the box, and the design of the corridor. Slopes should harmoniously fit into the interior of the room, so the choice of material for their manufacture must be given special attention.

Door slopes are:

  • outdoor. The front door is almost always mounted flush with the wall surface. To finish the external slopes, it is enough to install platbands, and if there is slight damage to the wall, then they are sealed with mortar, then the wall is covered with finishing material;

External slopes are usually closed with a platband

  • internal. Since these elements are located inside the apartment and are constantly in sight, a wide variety of materials can be used for their decoration. Internal slopes should be in harmony not only with the material of the canvas, but also with the whole situation in the room.

Different materials can be used to decorate the internal slopes, the main thing is that they harmonize with the interior of the entrance zone

For slopes of the entrance doors, you can use:

  • plastering. This is a cheap and reliable way, but to cope with it, you must have certain skills. First you need to properly prepare the solution, and then evenly distribute it on the surface of the wall around the door frame;
  • panels fixed to glue. Walls are carefully leveled, special glue is applied on them, after which finishing panels are glued. They can be from different materials, but the principle of the work is the same;
  • panels mounted on the frame. This finish option allows you to cover uneven walls. The frame is made of metal profiles or wooden blocks, it is fixed to the wall and panels are already installed on it. Inside, you can hide wires and other communications, install lighting fixtures or lay insulation material.

What materials are the slopes made of?

There are no ideal materials, they all have their advantages and disadvantages, and the choice depends only on the financial capabilities and taste preferences of the owner of the house or apartment. To make it right, you first need to familiarize yourself with the characteristics and features of all the used options for finishing slopes:

  1. Drywall. This is a popular, but rather time-consuming method. First, the sheets are attached to the wall, and then they are puttied and covered with finishing material. The result is a perfectly flat surface that can be painted in the desired color. Among the shortcomings, it should be noted that over time the paint will smear, and if the wallpaper is glued, then they can break.

Using drywall to finish slopes is a popular, but rather time-consuming option.

  2. Normal plaster. This type of finish requires special skills to get a beautiful and even surface. After plastering the opening, it will also need to be painted or wallpapered. The main plus of this option is its low cost. Cons - the finish over time can be damaged, and during work a lot of dirt and debris is formed.

After plastering, the slopes must be finished with finishing material.

  3. Decorative plaster. This is a modern look of the previous material, it is applied on a previously plastered surface. You can choose textured plaster or with colored chips. Such a coating has a long service life and a beautiful appearance. Its disadvantage is the high cost, as well as the fact that the work is rather dirty and time-consuming and also requires special skills.

Decorative plaster has a long service life and a beautiful appearance

  4. MDF panels. This is the easiest and most affordable way. To install MDF panels, simple tools will be required, and even a novice master can cope with such a task.

Finishing slopes with MDF panels is quick and easy.

  5. Laminate. Laminate, as well as MDF panels, is easy to install. This is cheap and affordable material, but the slopes from it will not look very presentable and will not work for expensive apartments.

Laminate is not suitable for finishing slopes of entrance doors in apartments with an expensive interior

  6. Natural wood. This is an expensive and environmentally friendly material, but it is not difficult to fix it. Such a solution is suitable when the entrance is framed in the appropriate style. The wooden surface must be periodically treated with special compounds that protect against moisture and decay.

Natural wood is suitable when the hallway is decorated in the appropriate style.

  7. Chipboard panels. This material has a low cost, but its service life will be short. Particleboard is afraid of moisture and begins to exfoliate at high humidity.

Particleboard panels are afraid of high humidity

  8. Dobory - ready-made special elements that are used to decorate the slopes of both entrance and interior doors. You can choose the material that will exactly match the door frame. The cost of extensions is higher than panels or laminate, but their appearance is more attractive.
  9. PVC panels. They will cost cheaply, any home master can cope with installation work. Plastic is not afraid of moisture, has a long service life, it is easy to care for it. The lack of PVC panels in their not very presentable appearance.

With the help of PVC panels, even a beginner can finish slopes

  10. Natural or artificial stone. You can create beautiful slopes from stone, which will also have a long service life and high wear resistance. The disadvantage is that laying stone requires a certain skill and a lot of time. If the slopes are finished with natural or artificial stone, then the adjacent walls should be plastered, since wallpaper or panels in this case are not suitable.

Slopes made of artificial stone have a beautiful appearance and high wear resistance

  11. Mosaic and tile. It is also a durable and durable material, but usually tiles are used in the kitchen, bathroom or toilet and many people do not perceive it on the slopes of the front doors. In addition, laying tiles, and even more so mosaics, is long and requires special skills.

Not all people accept slopes from tiles, since this material is usually used in the kitchen and in the bathroom

Necessary tools and materials

In order to independently finish the door slopes, you first need to decide on the method of their installation. Depending on whether the plastering of the surface or the laying of the material in a frame and frameless way will be carried out, you may need:

The main stages of finishing slopes of the front door

After you have decided on the method of finishing the slopes of the entrance doors and purchased the necessary materials and tools, you can proceed with the installation. Almost any home master will be able to do this work with his own hands, it is enough to carry out all the stages in accordance with the developed technologies.

Preparatory work

Although various materials are used to finish the slopes, the preparatory work in all cases is the same:

Plastering

It is best to plaster the slopes of the entrance doors at the stage of repairing the apartment, since during the execution of work a lot of dirt is formed.

  1. Primer surface. This step is necessary to ensure good adhesion of the solution.

    Primer improves adhesion of materials

  2. Installation of beacons. With the help of a building level, lighthouses are installed. They allow you to note the thickness of the plaster and help to evenly distribute it.

Lighthouses help to apply plaster evenly.

  3. Mounting the corner. Using a solution, the corner is fixed at the junction of the wall and the slope.

Corner protects the junction of the wall and slope

  4. Mounting the paint net. It is necessary to increase the strength of the plaster layer.
  5. Application of the solution. A solution is sprayed over the lighthouses, after which it is distributed as a rule.

After applying the solution, it is leveled with the rule

  6. Primer on a plastered surface.
  7. Application of finishing putty.
  8. Grout surface. The coating is treated with a fine grater to make it perfectly smooth.

To grout using a special tool and mesh

  9. Painting. Aqueous emulsion ink is usually used, as it dries quickly and has virtually no odor.

For painting slopes use emulsion paint

Glue finish

Various materials can be glued to the slopes, including drywall, laminate, MDF or chipboard panels. This method can be used when the walls do not have serious defects. Slight deviations from the level can be corrected by applying a layer of plaster, the thickness of which should not be more than 8-10 mm.

The process of installing panels in an adhesive manner consists of the following steps:

  1. Primer base. For this, special compositions are used that can increase the adhesion of materials.
  2. Measurement of slopes. Using measuring tools, the dimensions of the slopes are measured and transferred to the material used for finishing (drywall, particleboard, MDF, sandwich panels). Drywall can be installed both vertically and horizontally, since then all the seams will be plastered. It is better to install MDF and particleboard panels with one cloth so that there are no joints.

Slope measurements are transferred to the material used

  3. Glue application. This is done in a square-nesting manner every 15–20 cm. It is not necessary to completely cover the material with glue. A film should appear on the surface of the glue, for this you need to wait a few minutes.

The glue is applied in a square-nesting manner

  4. Panel fastening. They are laid starting from the top edge and are pressed firmly on the places under which the glue is located. The panels can be mounted on liquid nails, polyurethane adhesive or on mounting foam.

The panels are put in place and pressed well against the bearing surface.

  5. Finishing If drywall was used, then after its installation it is necessary to apply the finish coating. Laminate or MDF boards do not require additional finishing.

Wireframe Slope Finishing Method

In order to exclude the possibility of surface deformation after applying plaster or installing heavy MDF sheets, the skeleton method for finishing slopes is used. To create a frame, both metal profiles and wooden bars treated with an antiseptic can be used.

Work execution order:

  1. The surface is treated with an antiseptic primer.
  2. Mount vertical profiles. The extreme profile is set according to the level and fixed with dowels. The second rack is set in accordance with the first and is also fixed.

To increase the rigidity of the frame, transverse profiles are installed

  3. Mount wiring and insulation. If you plan to install an electric lock, lay a cable inside the frame to connect it. Insulation is also placed in the cells (mineral wool or polystyrene).
  4. Perform interior decoration. If it is MDF boards or laminate, then the finish is not needed. Drywall is plastered and stained or wallpapered.

Drywall or other finishing material is attached to the finished frame

Artificial stone slopes

To originally trim the slopes of the front doors, they often use artificial stone or clinker tiles. In this case, follow the rule: below the stone more, above - less. This solution allows you to smooth the transition to other finishing materials, and irregularities give the slopes a more natural look.

The sequence of work:

Video: do-it-yourself slopes of the front door

No matter what elegant door you set yourself up to, it will look, to put it mildly, unpresentable without a decent frame. Finishing the slopes of the front door is no less important than installing it. But often a person does not imagine how to trim the slopes of the front door. Let's talk about how to refine a doorway, discuss the pros and cons of the most popular materials.

Often, it is the slopes that are responsible for the presentable appearance of the doorway.

Before you make a doorway, let's figure out what are the openings of the front doors.

  1. The classic regular rectangle is the standard, most common option. No matter how strange it may sound, but the most difficult to decide how to trim the doorway of the entrance door with classic shapes. You can decorate with anything, but the problem is a large selection of materials, which can be difficult to determine. The main plus is that decorating the doorways with your own hands in a rectangular shape will not cause big difficulties.
  2. The arch looks more impressive, but the decoration of the door slopes after installing the arch-type entrance door is technologically more difficult. Plus, not all materials are suitable. Except for the branded linings that go with the door, all that remains is plaster, drywall and flexible polyurethane slopes.

The openings of the arched type look more impressive.

If the arched design of the doorways does not give you peace, it is not necessary to equip a real arch: it is much easier to install a decorative overlay in the form of an arch in the area of \u200b\u200bthe lintel (upper crossbar). This can be done both inside and out, the door itself and the slopes will be rectangular.

Decorative trim will help to design the door in the form of an arch.

How and what you can trim the slopes of the main door of your home

If you are faced with the task of how to trim the slopes of the front door, you can read the step-by-step instructions in and on the video in this article, and we will try to analyze all the pros and cons, which are often forgotten to be mentioned in advertising leaflets.

Option number 1. Good old plaster

Finishing doorways with cement plaster is deservedly considered the patriarch of the direction. This finish of door slopes appeared along with the doors themselves.

A well-plastered and finished slope will last for more than a dozen years, it is not afraid of temperature changes, humidity or cold. The plaster will fill all the voids and bumps. To spoil such a slope, you need to hammer it. If you are not going to influence your doors so radically, then you can be calm for the rest. To refresh the surroundings, the plastered slope can be repainted, glued onto it or lined with a nowadays fashionable retro-reflective film with a 3D effect: an even and durable surface will withstand everything.

But the plaster also has a downside. Of all the finishing methods, plastering slopes is the most time-consuming and dirty process.

Plastering the slopes of the front doors is not an easy task.

Of course, if you correctly install the beacons, buy good stucco mixes and a quality tool, then things will go much faster. Although believe me, if you have never plastered doorways with your own hands, this kind of decoration is not for you. In addition, plaster is, in fact, a stone, only artificial, and you should not expect any serious insulation from such a finish.

There is one more professional nuance. Even on a well-aligned slope, you can only glue the wallpaper, and then after two layers of primer. For high-quality staining, one plaster is not enough: the surface will still have to be putty and grinded additionally, and the time, effort and means of puttying and polishing will take no less than the plaster.

The plastered doorways look simple but elegant.

By the way, if you plan to finish the slope with natural or artificial stone, then the plaster will be the best and most reliable foundation, it does not need to be puttied.

Option No. 2. Drywall slopes

The next in reliability is the decoration of the doorway of the front door with sheets of drywall. Such cladding is also called dry plaster.

Drywall attracts with its speed and relative ease of installation, plus door jambs can be closed almost completely if necessary. If we conditionally break down all the work, then briefly finishing the entrance doorway with sheets of moisture-proof drywall consists of 5 stages:

  1. According to the rules, before finishing the opening of the front door, the surface must be cleaned of debris and covered with soil. But if the base is solid, for example, a brick wall, then it is enough to brush off the dust and go through a solution of copper sulfate so that the fungus does not start.
  2. Next, we install the frame of metal profiles. There are wall and ceiling profiles, so for slopes it is better to take ceiling (UD / CD). If a large space is blocked, then the whole frame is mounted, and when there is not enough space, only the extreme vertical guides are placed.

  1. GCR is better to take wall (12.5 mm), and the sheets should be moisture resistant. If an arch is formed, then for it there is an arched drywall (7.5 mm). Sheets are attached to the frame with self-tapping screws, and glued to the wall with tile glue or a similar building mixture.
  2. When the structure is assembled, it must be puttied. Remember - nothing is glued to the “bare” sheets, it is not painted and does not fasten.
  3. The last step is the decor of the doorway. It all depends on the taste, skill and financial capabilities. The easiest way is to paste over the slopes with wallpaper. They do not need to be sanded carefully. Then comes the painting, but in front of it you will have to polish the slope well. Tiles or stone are more expensive, but glued quickly and easily.

The hollow drywall slope has another indisputable advantage: it can be filled with insulation, thereby increasing heat and sound insulation. At the same time, it is better to take polystyrene as a heater. There is an option to blow foam inside, but proceed carefully: it can squeeze a sheet when expanded. It is advisable not to use mineral or any other cotton wool to insulate the passages of the entrance doors: it will become damp from the condensate and become useless.

Many reproach drywall for allegedly breaking easily, but believe me, if you mount a good frame with a gap between profiles of not more than 200 mm, and when mounting on glue you will not regret the glue, then you can not worry about the strength of the slope.

Option number 3. MDF

Finishing the jambs of the MDF front door with plates at the moment is considered almost the most common. This is quite tough and at the same time beautiful material, such panels behave well under temperature extremes and in conditions of high humidity.

When choosing MDF panels, there is a small nuance: you can take any sheets for finishing the front door from the inside, but for external slopes, especially if the doors go directly to the street, you should only buy moisture-resistant ones (the back of them has a greenish tint), otherwise after a year all beauty will go in bubbles.

In this case, we are only interested in laminated panels, taking ordinary ones and then painting them separately does not make sense. There are also panels in the line covered with natural wood veneer. The price for them is about half higher than for laminated ones, but such slopes can hardly be distinguished from expensive wood.

A slope with backlighting from veneered MDF is not only beautiful, but also convenient.

As for self-assembly, then add-ons, platbands, fixing corners and other things to buy and install is not a problem. In essence, you are dealing with a constructor. First, a frame of wooden bars is constructed around the perimeter of the opening, and panels are already attached to it.

Of a relatively expensive tool, you will need a miter saw or at least an electric jigsaw, as well as a drill and a screwdriver. A hammer, tape measure, etc. is usually in the arsenal of any home master.

Minus MDF slopes is considered only the price of the material itself. Only a natural tree of elite species is more expensive than such a facing, by the way, it is mounted in the same way, but it is better not to take it yourself: the risk is too great to spoil.

Arranging a doorway from MDF is not as difficult as it seems.

Option number 4. Lining

The price of a good wooden lining is approximately equal to the cost of MDF, but in this case you get slopes from natural wood. This design of the doorway looks pretty solid, but there are nuances.

Any lining is mounted on a wooden crate, which means that you should have enough space for such a crate. Accordingly, it is problematic to make small slopes from the lining.

Natural wood - a good material, but rather moody. In extreme conditions of the entrance doors, the tree must be covered with antiseptics, flame retardants and other protective compounds.

Previously, the lining was completely varnished, now design specialists do not recommend varnish. The fact is that for most people, lacquered lining is associated with balconies and garages, and the front door is still the face of the home. It is best to buy an oil-wax impregnation and apply it. The result pleases: fast, beautiful and inexpensive.

Option number 5. PVC

Slopes made of finishing PVC panels can be mounted within 1 day, plus the price of this material is affordable for almost everyone, but decorating a doorway with plastic has a number of negative aspects.

Plastic PVC slopes are mounted quickly and easily.

You can break through a hollow thin panel by simply leaning on it. As practice has shown, even the highest quality plastic panels on a good crate in the area of \u200b\u200bentrance doors last no more than two or three years.

Under plastic, you need a wooden or metal crate. Theoretically, such a panel can be glued to a plastered slope with liquid nails, but if you have a good plastered slope, then why do you need plastic.

In addition, according to fire regulations, it is extremely undesirable to install plastic in the entrance area. In case of fire, it will actively melt and emit choking acrid smoke, thereby blocking the exit.

Although, on the other hand, as a temporary solution to the problem, plastic fits perfectly. And when you have enough money, you can quickly dismantle it and install solid slopes from high-quality MDF to the same crate.

PVC panels have a fairly wide range of decor.

Option number 6. Decorative polyurethane linings

If you want to see your doors decorated with luxurious stucco molding, we recommend paying attention to decorative polyurethane linings. Visually, such a finish cannot be distinguished from a good stucco molding, and the performance of such slopes is an order of magnitude higher. The only problem is that the price of such jewelry is quite serious, plus you can’t stick the trim on the curved base. In other words, you will first need to level the slope with plaster or drywall, and then glue polyurethane beauty on it.

If the slopes are decorated with luxurious stucco molding, this indicates a good taste and status of the owner.

A few words about the decorative finish of the door slopes

Finishing decorative finishing is applied only on a solid prepared base, respectively, we can choose only between plaster and drywall.

  1. Most often, people choose simple staining. The quality of modern paints is such that they can maintain their original appearance for quite some time and under any weather conditions, plus, if you get very tired of the color, you can always repaint it.
  2. The next in the ranking of finishing door slopes is decorative tile. Tiles for entrance doors are not suitable, so it is better to give preference to clinker tiles. If the means allow, then you can veneer the slopes with artificial stone, by and large it is the same tile, only made of stone dust and polymers.
  3. The top three leaders are natural stone. Pleasure is far from cheap, in addition, with your own hands and without preparation it is better not to take it. Natural stone is a heavy and difficult to process material.

High-quality artificial stone is visually no different from natural.

Output

In conclusion, we would like to note that it’s better for home-made ones to dwell on materials designed for crate. These are MDF, wood and PVC. If you are confident in yourself, then you can swipe at drywall. But we recommend leaving plastering slopes to professionals.

Door slopes from MDF - one of the most affordable for independent arrangement.

Even the most chic front door will look unpresentable if the slopes around it are sloppy. They are designed to serve as a beautiful frame, complement and highlight the main element -. To determine how to trim the slopes of the front door, you need to pay attention to its style, design and color scheme. The slopes framing the entrance inside the apartment must correspond not only to the decorative parameters of the door, but also to the design of the hallway.

In addition to a purely decorative function, these elements around should also serve as additional effective insulation, since their plane covers the joints between the door frame and the wall.

How can you finish the slopes?

Finishing the slopes in the door can be made of different materials, or you can simply bring the existing slopes in order.

1.   If the door is reliable and strong, but not outstanding in design, you can simply align the slopes with plaster, reinforcing their corners. Such work is usually carried out both on the entrance side and in the hallway.

Slopes can be neatly finished with plaster

Plastered slopes will look quite neat - they can be painted in a color close to the shade of the door itself or in tone with the wallpaper in the hallway.

2.   In the case when  the walls of the house are quite thick, and the slopes are wide, you can use for decoration such material familiar to everyone as drywall. It will make the walls warmer and reliably close the joints between the door frame and the wall, giving the slopes a neat appearance.

Drywall, if desired, can be glued with wallpaper or covered with paint. The advantage of this material is that you do not need to painfully level the plaster with the rule, and then clean the wall.

3.   You can make slopes of natural wood, if it is suitable for decorating the door. The tree has always been popular and never gone out of fashion, it combines perfectly with almost any interior, and its tinting can easily be changed using modern or folk means.

The tree will reliably serve for many years, without changing its natural decorative properties. In extreme cases, it can be painted to the color of the hallway.

4.   An alternative to wood can be a laminated board based on fiberboard.

Since the lining is made in different colors and imitates the texture of the most diverse types of wood, it can be selected for any design of the hallway. However, it is not recommended to trim the slopes on the outside of the door with this material, since it will not last there for long.

5.   Ready-made PVC panels may become another finishing option. They are produced in various widths and in a rich range of colors. The production and sale of such parts are carried out by specialized companies, in which masters work, who are also engaged in the installation of panels.

One of the most successful solutions - carefully fitted PVC panels

This finish option looks respectable and aesthetically pleasing. PVC panels will last a long time, but it is also better to install them from the side of the apartment, and from the porch side use the first or second method described above for finishing.

If you have confidence in your abilities, then the finished parts of the slopes can be installed independently.

Another option for using polymers to finish the inside of a door can be a plastic lining. It is also easy to choose the color of the walls of the hallway, as a wide range of this material is on sale.

6.   Sheathe slopes and chipboard panels - they are mainly used with very thick walls. However, it should be noted that at present, this type of decoration is not becoming very popular, as a large number of other materials have appeared that can easily replace these panels, which are quite difficult to install.

Nevertheless, if this material of the necessary sizes was found at home, then it can be used to decorate the door slopes from the side of the apartment.

It should be noted that there are other materials that can be used to arrange the planes around the door, but the above options are the most popular.

Tools and building materials for finishing slopes

To finish the slopes you will need materials and tools that will help to carry out all the work accurately.

1.   For plastering work you will need:

  • primer and finishing putty for surface preparation.
  • plaster mix or traditional cement mortar.
  • perforated metal corner to align the corners.
  • a sickle mesh, a clerical knife and self-tapping screws will be needed if the slopes are made of drywall.
  • sandpaper is coarse and fine-grained.
  • wide and medium spatula.
  • a shortened rule for leveling the surface of slopes.
  • mortar mixing tank, drill with special mixing nozzle
  • plumb and level.

2.   For the installation of panels made of different materials, it is necessary to prepare:

  • ready-made panels for installation on slopes or material for them.
  • decorative corners and platbands for closing the joints of panels.
  • a beam with a section of 15 × 30 or 20 × 30 mm, if a lining is installed.
  • dowels for attaching panels or beams to the wall.
  • small cloves and special holders for lining.
  • a drill with a shock function or a perforator, if the house has concrete walls.
  • self-tapping screws for attaching panels.
  • measuring tools.
  • hacksaw or jigsaw, screwdriver, knife, hammer, etc.

Having prepared everything you need, you can proceed to surface preparation and installation.

The technology of finishing slopes in the door

Each type of work on the decoration of slopes has its own characteristics:

  • Many of the materials presented are installed using the same technology.
  • Some of the finishing technologies are notable for their simplicity, and with the right approach to work, they can be done independently.
  • Others can be used for independent use only if the homeowner has the necessary skills in working with building mixtures and tools.

All measures for the installation of slopes begin after the door is installed and all the cracks between the door jamb and the wall are closed. In addition, all the breakaway parts of the old coating are removed from the slopes and the crumbling areas are cleaned. When these works are completed, proceed to finish the selected method.

Plastering slopes

If a decision is made to level and plaster the slopes, the process goes to following sequence:

  • First of all, the cleaned surface should be well primed, preferably in two layers, but the second time the primer is applied only after the first layer has dried.
  • Next, the evenness of the slope angles is revealed. If deviations from the norm are determined, then this fact must be taken into account when installing reinforcing corners. They can align the angles having small deviations from the vertical.

  • Then you need to set the perforated corners at the edges of the slopes along the plumb line and level. They are best planted on a finished putty, sold ready-made. It is applied with a spatula to the corners of the slopes - the composition will serve to glue the corner and makes it possible to align it to a perfectly vertical or horizontal position. Excess mortar that exits through the openings of the corner must be removed immediately with a spatula. Having brought the corners to the ideal, the solution at the corners is left to dry.
  • If the slope surface is uneven, then before installing the perforated corners on the corners, you can set the direction from the door jamb by fixing along it a narrow strip of drywall with a width of 8-10 mm. This material is fixed to the wall using putty. If it is on a gypsum basis, then its solidification occurs rather quickly.
  • The edge of the drywall strip and the installed reinforcing corner will become the points that need to be connected with the putty solution and leveled with plaster.
  • Further, after drying the wall-correcting elements, putty is diluted in the proportions indicated on the package to a paste-like consistency.

  • With the help of a trowel, the finished composition is poured onto the wall, starting from the floor. Having thrown the required amount, about a meter high, the putty is aligned with the rule. In this case, the beacons are the perforated corner fixed on the corner and the strip of drywall fixed along the door frame.

  • Then the solution is poured onto the next section and also leveled, and so on to the top of the opening.
  • The ceiling part of the opening will be more difficult to putty. Putty is applied to it with a wide spatula and leveled with a short rule. Then the putty is applied to the wall above the doorway, and it closes the upper part of the metal corner.

  • Treated slopes leave to dry. The time of this process depends on the thickness of the layer and the composition of the putty.
  • After this layer dries, you need to check the surface quality, remove possible minor flaws - chop or clean incoming irregularities. Then the slopes must be removed with finishing putty to perfect evenness.
  • Further, after the putty layer dries, it is coated with a primer.

The resulting surface can be painted, papered or finished with decorative plaster.

Drywall door trim

It is easier and more pleasant to work with drywall than with removing slopes using plaster. Nevertheless, in this case, one still has to work with a finishing putty, which will play the role of an adhesive composition for gypsum plasterboard sheets, but still it is better to use a special gypsum-based adhesive produced specifically for working with gypsum fluids instead.

If space is limited, then drywall is the best suited for making slopes. This process is carried out in the following sequence:

  • First, all slope surfaces are measured. separately.
  • The received data is transferred to the GVL sheets, and elements are cut out on them, which will be fixed on the walls.

  • Installation of finished parts begins with the ceiling of the opening. To do this, glue is applied to the plasterboard blank with several slides, and then this element is firmly pressed to the installation site and fixed in this position by previously prepared supports.

  • Then, the slope walls are cut out from the GVL. On the prepared element, glue is also laid in small slides, and the sheet is pressed against the wall and measured by level. Drywall sheets can be fixed to the wall with driven dowels, making through them, but not too wide holes for them with an electric drill or punch.

  • At the corners of the slopes in the same way as with plastering, metal perforated corners are fixed using putty.
  • Then all joints are smeared with putty, leveled, and after drying - thoroughly cleaned.
  • Further, the entire surface of the slope is covered with a primer.
  • To achieve an ideal surface, a thin (no more than 1 mm) layer of the finishing putty is applied. He will finally hide all the bumps, joints and holes from the dowels.
  • After the hardening of the putty layer is complete and, if necessary, grinding with a fine-grained sandpaper, you can proceed to the decorative design of the slopes. They can be painted, glued or coated with decorative plaster.

Drywall is fixed and otherwise, in case you need to level the surface, covering a considerable thickness from the wall.

Combined fastening of drywall parts - on glue and on guides
  • To do this, on the slope surface, bars of the desired section or metal profiles, corners or a U-shape are fixed, thus creating a crate that will help align the wall, giving it the necessary direction. This fixing method has the advantage that between the guides fixed to the wall, insulation material can be additionally laid.
  • This whole structure is then closed with drywall, which is screwed to the bars with screws. Further, the process goes in the same way as in the first embodiment.

Finishing slopes with panels or clapboard

For decoration slopes materials that  made in the form of rigid panels - fiberboard, lining of various types, MDF and others, using a similar technology for fixing them to the wall. This method is attractive in that with the help of panels it is possible to align angles having large deviations from the norm.

Installation of such materials is carried out as follows:

  • The primed surfaces of the slopes are marked for fixing on them bars or a metal profile, on which the finishing material will be fixed in the future. These auxiliary elements are located at a distance of 30-40 cm from each other, if they are installed across the slope. In this case, if a lining is used for decoration, it will be mounted parallel to the door frame. If it is necessary that the panels are located across the surface, then the block to repeats along the jamb and closer to the angle of slope. For a wide surface, not two, but three or even four bars are used.

  • You can hold the crate and as shown in the picture - this option is called for fixing the lining parallel to the door.
  • After mounting the battens, it is recommended to lay insulation material between the bars - it can be mineral wool, polystyrene or one of the other modern heaters.
  • Further, on the crate, the installation of the selected facing material is performed. Solid even panels are installed end-to-end with each other, the lining is connected with a groove-spike mount.

  • Plastic and laminated lining is fixed to the bars from the side of the groove part of the lock with the help of special metal holders, which are put on the lower shelf of the groove with their protrusions and fastened with a guide with small studs or self-tapping screws.

  • Large area panels are screwed to the crate with self-tapping screws, the heads of which must be "drowned" by 1.5-2 mm in the thickness of the material. These holes are later repaired with putty on wood with the addition of a dye of the appropriate shade.
  • Having finished with the installation of the panels, the appearance of the slopes must be ennobled with corners selected according to the color of the cladding. Corners are glued at external vertical and horizontal corners and at the junction of the door frame and decoration material.

Features of vinyl slopes

The most modern way to transform the slopes is the installation of vinyl panels. They can be purchased at specialized firms that are engaged in the manufacture and installation of this finishing material. If it has a non-standard form of slopes, then they are made to order, after measuring the parameters. The surface of the slopes can imitate many natural materials, so they can be selected literally for any interior of the hallway and the color of the front door.

The main advantages of the finished panels in their installation are its speed and the absence of a large amount of debris and dirt during operation. We can not say about the aesthetic qualities of this finish - it is cut exactly to the size of the slopes and has no joints and seams on the planes. The only connections that cannot be abandoned are the joints of horizontal and vertical planes. The material looks very presentable and neat.

For the installation of such slopes, universal glue is used, which has the ability to firmly interconnect various materials, such as wood and concrete, brick and chipboard, vinyl and plaster surface - almost all used in construction and decoration. In addition, they are often attached to polyurethane foam.

Such adhesives are applied to the inner surface of the finishing panels, and they are pressed against the slopes around the door. In this case, it is not necessary to drill holes in the facing material and walls, which can also be called an indisputable advantage of this installation technology.

Doing the work in stages and adhering to the technology, it is quite possible to independently carry out the work of decorating the door slopes. Even without the opportunity to purchase material for decoration, many apartment owners use what is at hand, for example, particleboard panels from used furniture. But still the most affordable and easy to install (except for ready-made vinyl panels), is considered the option to use. It opens up wide possibilities for finishing decoration by almost any existing means.
