Pipe box in the bathroom: installation of a box made of plastic or drywall. How to make a frame from a profile under a pipe box in a bathroom? Box for plumbing in the bathroom

Collapsible Box Construction

The box was made of moisture-proof drywall and metal guides PN40x50. The design consists of three attached elements, mounted on top of each other. Each section of the box is a corner element and is attached to the walls of the bathroom using conventional hinges for hanging shelves. Self-tapping screws are screwed into the walls, mating holes in the guides. The box is hung on the screws, but it rests on the floor or lower section of the box. Such fastening reliably keeps the structure from sliding. You can use metal corners on the inside of the box as an additional or main fastener. Access to them is provided through the hatch and outside with the upper section removed. On the inside of the sections handles are attached for ease of movement during installation.

The horizontal joints of the sections are made at the seams of the tiles. It was not possible to save the old tile during the destruction of the previous box, and there was only dark in reserve. It was used for the bottom of the box. For the middle and upper parts, a mosaic of suitable color has been bought. Tile and glued to drywall on liquid nails. In the middle part, an opening hatch is mounted for everyday access to valves and water meters. The design turned out to be not very light, but if necessary, provide access to the pipes of the riser, it can be disassembled together and assembled very quickly, which was actually required. We left the seams between the sections not frayed, if you wish, you can seal them with silicone or a rubber sealant, because it is planned to disassemble this structure only in an emergency.

Communications in the bathrooms look unattractive, so in most cases, starting apartment renovation, the owners of the living space want and, building a box of plasterboard for pipes. Someone invites the master for this, but if there is at least a minimal idea of \u200b\u200bthe construction tool, you can close the pipes yourself.

Material selection and necessary tools

The construction of the box is not a complicated process, but in this work there are some nuances that you should know for a positive result. For installation, you need to buy materials, and:

  • fasteners - connection elements, “seeds”, dowel-nails;
  • plaster;
  • silicone-based sealant - useful for sealing joints with the floor;
  • revision hatch;
  • drywall
  • profile - and.

  Material for creating a drywall construction

Tools will be needed for work, there are not so many of them, so it will not be difficult to prepare it:

  • spatula;
  • screwdriver;
  • hammer drill;
  • 6 mm drill;
  • scissors for metal;
  • screwdriver;
  • level;
  • roulette;
  • knife and hacksaw;
  • bath;
  • container for mixing the mixture.

  Drywall Tools

Once everything is ready, you can assemble the box from drywall, consider step-by-step instructions.

Step-by-step instructions for manufacturing a pipe box

Before you begin to assemble a box of drywall, you need to make a project. Do not ignore this stage, since it is one of the most important, since the quality of the box made on its own depends on it.

Step-by-step instructions for assembling a drywall box to hide sewage pipes will be described with an example of a bathroom and a toilet, the installation process for hiding pipes in a kitchen is identical to that described.

It is not necessary to create an accurate drawing, it is enough to simply make a schematic drawing with the dimensions of the future design transferred onto it.

  • Next, it should be noted on the floor and ceiling, the location of the guide profile, for this you need a building corner. Substitute the corner with a short edge to the corner at the intersection of the floor and the wall, and draw a straight line on the floor. The angle between the strip on the wall and the strip on the floor should be 90 degrees;

  • It’s also worth doing on the ceiling.

The markup is ready, you can proceed to the next step.

Mounting and installation of the frame from profiles

Before the construction of the metal frame, you need to cut the desired number of segments of the profile equal to the marked lines.

Watch the video: frame assembly for the future GKL box.

How to install:

  • You need to start by installing the guide profiles on the floor and ceiling, and then on the walls. They are installed strictly along the lines, and fixed using dowels, nails. To do this, firmly press the profile to the floor and directly through it drill holes in the floor at a distance of 15 cm from each other. Insert the dowels into the holes and screw in the screws;

  • After that, you can proceed with the installation of rack profiles. It is inserted along the rails above and below. The profile is pressed and fastened with dowels-nails. The ends of the flexible joint are bent inward, or cut off. The main requirement in this situation is that the profile should be level;
  • The next step will be the installation of an angular connecting profile, it is screwed with small screws to the intersection of the guides on the corner of the future box;

  Fastening the rack profile to the guide using self-tapping screws

  • Then the stiffening frame is mounted in the pipe duct - the profile near the wall and the profile at the corner are connected in small segments. The segments are located strictly parallel to the floor at a distance of 30 cm from each other, along the entire height of the frame on both sides.

Important! The entire assembly must be controlled by level, even a small deviation, which can lead to poor-quality assembly of the structure. These instructions will help you assemble and install a box that can block the heating pipes.

Firstly, under this design, reinforcement of profiles, in size, is performed.

Secondly, such hatches are quite heavy, so you need to fix it carefully, not sparing the screws.

Also at this stage it is necessary to determine where the ventilation grill will be installed, it is necessary so that condensation does not form inside the duct.

The box in the bathroom allows you to hide pipes, taps, water meters and other communication plumbing equipment. It is easier to assemble the box from a metal profile, and use PVC panels or a drywall sheet as a sheathing.

Preparatory work before installing the box

Before you start making a box in the bathroom with your own hands, you need to determine the purpose and size. For decorative concealment of pipes, it is enough to create a light frame around them, sheathed with a moisture-repellent coating. If there are children in the house or it is planned to place something on the created surface (basins, buckets, household chemical goods), then the foundation will have to be strengthened with power bars. The creation of a veneered false wall from floor to ceiling will help solve the issue of visual decoration of the resulting corners.

Before you make a box in the bathroom, you will need to create a drawing of the planned design on paper. It is necessary to include the installation locations of future hatches located opposite the shut-off valves, water meters and flexible connection points. If a natural or forced hood is placed in place of the future frame, you will have to create a ventilation duct in the bathroom. Assembled from building materials, it should provide sufficient airflow. The easiest way is to lay a decorative grille opposite the existing one.

Assembly of the frame of the box

You can assemble the box in the bathroom with your own hands using the following tools:

  • drill or perforator;
  • scissors for metal;
  • hacksaw for metal;
  • hammer, screwdriver, tape measure.

It is advisable to assemble a box for pipes in the bathroom from waterproof materials. The frame is better made from a metal profile, and not from a bar. The involvement of the latter is permissible only if a closed shower cubicle is placed in the bathroom and a good hood is available. The bowl of a bathtub filled with hot water creates excess moisture, destructive for a bar. At the same time, its advantages include simple installation of the box in the bathroom and high mechanical strength of the entire structure. To protect the timber from moisture, it is better to use oil paint, varnish or drying oil.

The rectangular box above the pipes is also assembled from a metal profile. To do this, at least three centimeters (above the upper level of the pipes when placing them horizontally or sideways when standing vertically), guide rails for the profile are screwed on with self-tapping screws. The profile itself is measured by size: the height of the box plus its depth. Two parallel rectangular cuts are made in the profile with scissors for metal to bend it at an angle of 90 °, after which it is inserted into the guides. Further installation of the box in the bathroom consists of installing similar profiles with a distance of 40-50 cm between them.

From the beam, the frame is assembled similarly. It is possible to strengthen the horizontal plane of the future design by installing the bar straight to the floor - both when assembling from this material, and into the notch of the metal profile. A full-size vertical ventilation duct in the bathroom can be assembled from a thinner beam (40x50 mm) or from a metal profile with a large pitch between the stiffeners.

Options for finishing the box in the bathroom

It is worthwhile to assemble a box of drywall in the bathroom or toilet in case of high mechanical strength expected from it. You will also have to use this material when decorating the bathroom duct with ceramic tiles. The advantages of drywall include a noticeable reinforcement of the frame. The place of the rectangular connection of the sheets in the box must be strengthened with a profile corner. The drywall itself is attached to the profile or timber with self-tapping screws with a countersunk head.

A similar installation box made of panels in the bathroom is less resistant to dynamic loads. Such lining is beneficial as decorative, without mechanical impact from the outside. It is easily erected (self-tapping screws or glue to the profile), moisture resistant and does not require finishing. A box of drywall in the bathroom will have to be glued with film, tile or painted. The joints of panels or sheets with a wall (floor) are sealed with sealant and baseboards.

Installation of hatches in a box

To attach a plastic hatch to a drywall or to a box of panels in the bathroom is exactly the same: it is enough to cut the perimeter of the hatch frame with an office knife or a jigsaw and stick it on. Designing a fully openable wall box is quite difficult technically, especially when tiled. Therefore, it is necessary to provide access to all places of threaded or other connections in the tubing box in the bathroom with hatches.

When deciding how to make a box in the bathroom, you need to proceed from the weight, dynamic load on its walls. It is not advisable to use plywood, hardboard (fiberboard sheets) for decoration because of their low moisture resistance and strength. The frame of the box from a metal profile will give rigidity, and its vertical load-bearing beams from a bar or the same profile will strengthen it. For service work, you will need to install plastic doors with glue at the joints of pipes or a flexible eyeliner for plumbing.

When decorating the interior of the bathroom, it is necessary to choose the right finishing materials for walls and floors, choose the necessary plumbing fixtures. The design of the premises is often spoiled by various utilities, water supply and sewage. Hide the elements from prying eyes will help the box for pipes in the bathroom.

Design Materials

When installing the box, there is no need to resort to the help of a specialist, you can do it yourself. At the initial stage of work, a frame is made that will serve as the basis for fixing the finishing material. The element is made of galvanized metal profile. The guides are placed vertically or horizontally, then fastened with jumpers.

A variety of materials can be used as finishes. They must have the following properties:

  • high moisture resistance (air humidity constantly changes in the bathroom, which can lead to the formation of fungus and mold on surfaces);
  • minimum finishing weight and small thickness (thanks to such qualities installation of structural elements is simplified);
  • environmental safety of products used;
  • attractive finish.

The specified requirements correspond to several materials.

PVC

Panels made of polyvinyl chloride have an attractive appearance. Products are present on the construction market in a wide range. A person can choose the finish according to personal preferences, in any case, the panels should fit into the existing interior of the room.

The box in the toilet made of PVC panels has the following advantages:

  • excellent moisture resistance indicators;
  • strength and durability;
  • minimum weight of panels;
  • ease of installation without a special construction tool;
  • ease of care, just wipe the surface with a damp cloth;
  • low cost of material;
  • the possibility of repair work: damaged panels are removed from the frame and replaced with new elements;
  • compactness.

A plastic pipe box in the bathroom is ideal for small spaces, because the panels are small in thickness. An alternative to this material can be considered drywall panels.

Moisture-resistant drywall

You can find several product options in stores. Standard drywall is used in ordinary living rooms, but it is not suitable for a bathroom where high humidity is constantly present. The way out of the situation will be the use of sheets of moisture-proof drywall. The products are suitable for the installation of standard designs of rectangular shape or parts with convex surfaces, but this will require special skills in working with the material.

Moisture resistant sheets can be identified by the green surface. Plates are treated with antiseptic solutions that prevent the appearance of fungus and mold. Installation of drywall boxes in bathrooms has the following features:

  • installation of elements is much more complicated than fixing plastic panels;
  • it will not be possible to obtain a collapsible structure, therefore, it is necessary to provide a small door or hatch in the box that will provide unhindered access to shut-off valves;
  • gypsum boards are considered the basis, as a finishing material, ceramic tile or moisture-resistant paint can be used.

Important!   To improve performance characteristics, the surface of drywall is covered with special impregnations, which additionally protect the material from the harmful effects of moisture.

Waterproof plywood

Products differ from ordinary plywood sheets in a special composition. Natural wood veneer is securely glued to each other with the help of special glue, which increases the strength characteristics and moisture resistance of the material. A person can choose the required thickness of the sheets, this parameter ranges from 6 to 40 mm. The main disadvantage of the finish is the high cost, its surface must be additionally coated with waterproof compounds.

MDF and HDV

Some craftsmen recommend assembling a box from MDF panels. In fact, it is not advisable to use this material in the bathroom, because wood-fiber boards absorb moisture well, which in the future will lead to their destruction.

You can close the pipes using HDV plates. Products differ from the previous version in increased density, they better resist moisture. HDV will last in the bathroom for at least 10 years without losing the initial technical characteristics.

OSB

Oriented strand laminated boards (OSB) will be an ideal option for finishing the box. They contain synthetic resins and other components that inhibit rotting of wood. In the construction market, you can find several types of plates, but panels with additional impregnation, marking OSB-3 or OSB-4, are best suited for the bathroom.

Design choice

Engineering communications can be masked in several different ways. The most popular box designs:

  • the cabinet is installed above vertical pipes, can be equipped with shelves for various small utensils and household items;
  • partition wall - a fairly large structure that is installed along the entire length or height of the room. This option hides all engineering systems, including sewer pipes, and is ideal for large premises. The box can be used when installing various elements of plumbing, it well hides the installation of the toilet or the supply pipes from the sink, coming from the mixer. Shelves for storage of household chemicals are mounted behind the partition;
  • compact horizontal or vertical ducts are used in small bathrooms. Designs occupy the minimum amount of usable space.

Important!   Before choosing a specific option, it is necessary to determine the dimensions of the structure, make appropriate notes on the wall.

Necessary tools

To make a removable box for pipes in the toilet, you will need:

  • galvanized metal profile for the frame device;
  • dowel-nails for fixing guides on the surface of the walls;
  • a laser or ordinary building level is used for marking;
  • sickle or reinforcing tape is used for reliable connection of drywall sheets;
  • stationery knife;
  • a screwdriver and screws or self-tapping screws for fixing finishing materials to the frame;
  • hammer drill;
  • putty and putty knife;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • scissors for metal or a grinder with an abrasive disc are used to cut the guides.

You will need putty and putty knife, primer for treating drywall surfaces before finishing.

In addition to the specified tool, other devices can be used, it depends on the specific finishing material.

Creating a box of drywall

To create a decorative box from sheets of moisture-proof drywall, you must adhere to the following step-by-step instructions:

  1. At the preparatory stage of work, measurements are made on the walls at the pipe locations, the distances are transferred to the paper, a detailed plan of the construction device is made (opposite the meters and shutoff valves, an opening for the hatch device is provided).
  2. Marking lines in the bathroom are applied on the surface of the walls and ceiling, if necessary (the minimum distance between the extreme part of the engineering communication and the inner surface of the duct is 3 cm).
  3. They pass to the frame device from a galvanized profile (dowel nails are used to fix the guides, screws or self-tapping screws for fastening on wooden structures).
  4. In the case of a box for masking vertical pipes of engineering systems, a metal profile is first installed on the walls, then on the ceiling. To ensure structural rigidity, jumpers are mounted. The box should have a minimum number of bends, this will greatly simplify installation work.
  5. Sheets of moisture-resistant drywall are cut in such a way that a minimum number of joints is obtained.
  6. Fasten sheets of material using self-tapping screws to a previously installed frame.
  7. Lay a sickle (reinforcing mesh) and putty on the corners of the structure and at the joints of the sheets.
  8. Insert doors or inspection hatch.

At the final stage of the work, they cover the box with a primer and begin decorating. The structure can be covered with paint or tiled to match the color of the walls in the bathroom.

Collapsible design

If necessary, you can make a collapsible box, which will simplify the repair of utilities. In this case, the drywall sheets are fixed with screws on the edge of the frame. Finishing material in the end part is not putty, in the future it will be closed with a metal corner. To disassemble the structure, it is enough to remove the corners and unscrew the screws.

Tiled

To mask engineering communications, ceramic tiles must be selected according to the color and pattern of the existing finishing material. At the initial stage of work, drywall is coated with a primer, which will contribute to better adhesion of the base surface. Make a preliminary layout of the tiles and determine the most advantageous placement of elements.

Now you need to prepare the glue. The solution is mixed with water according to the manufacturer's instructions. The mixture is applied to the surface using a notched trowel, after which the tile is laid. To maintain the same gaps between adjacent elements, plastic crosses are used. The position of the ceramic tiles is adjusted with a rubber mallet and a building level.

For cutting tiles, a tile cutter or grinder with an abrasive disk is used. During the work, it is necessary to take into account the size of the gap between the tiles. When the glue dries, the joints are filled with grout of the selected color with a rubber spatula and clean the surface from contamination.

Creating a box of plastic panels

The device box of plastic panels is carried out according to the same technology. First, marking lines are applied to the walls of the room. After that proceed to the installation of the U-shaped and angular profile. When the frame is installed, take measurements and cut plastic, insert the panels into the frame. Plastic products do not need additional processing, they perfectly resist the effects of moisture.

Access to communications

For unhindered access to utilities, a water meter and shutoff valves, a door or inspection hatch is provided. Products are made of the same material as the finish of the box. For ease of use, a furniture handle is attached to the doors. To prevent spontaneous opening, the product is equipped with magnets.

  • with a vertical structure, marking lines are drawn in the direction from the floor to the ceiling;
  • it is necessary to treat the inner surface of the finishing material with an antifungal agent, antiseptic;
  • it is important to provide revision openings for the use of shutoff valves or to control the amount of water used;
  • it is necessary to use a metal profile for the device of the frame for drywall;
  • it is better to fix the sheets with self-tapping screws every 30 cm.

And the last, but very important requirement: in the immediate vicinity of the pipes it is worth placing them in one box. The minimum distance from the internal surface of the structure to utilities is 3 cm.

Pipes left in sight are not the best complement to a bathroom interior. In order for the room to have a neat and complete look, communications must be hidden. Moreover, it is desirable to do this in such a way as to have access to the pipe joints, valves, meters and filters. The best solution to this problem would be the manufacture of boxes. Consider how to make a pipe box in the bathroom from plastic panels.

Advantages of the plastic box

The design for masking pipes can be made of plastic or. Each of these options is good in its own way, but from the point of view of practicality, the plastic box leads. It has many undeniable advantages:

  • The ability to quickly disassemble without damaging the material This property of the construction made of plastic is especially relevant for pipes joined by fittings and threaded connections that are not insured against leaks. After eliminating the breakdown or scheduled maintenance of the pipes, the box is easily assembled back.
  • No need for further decoration. Plastic panels themselves are already the finishing decorative material, unlike drywall, which requires final processing.
  • Resistant to deformation and ease of repair. The plastic used to make the panels is durable and flexible, so the likelihood of damage is lower than that of tiles that can be accidentally broken. Even if one panel is damaged, it is easy to replace it with a new one without affecting the entire structure.
  • Moisture resistance. PVC is not afraid of water, does not rot, nothing will happen to the box, even if it is installed close to the bathtub or becomes wet due to condensation formed on the pipes.
  • Easy to install. Installation of the box will take only a few hours, does not require the use of expensive or specific tools.
  • Affordable price. Plastic panels for bathrooms - one of the most inexpensive finishing materials.
  • Roominess and compactness. Due to the small thickness of the panels, the plastic structure is very spacious and does not take up much unnecessary space in the bathroom, which is especially important for a small room.

A plastic box is very practical: it can be disassembled and assembled the required number of times.

Preparatory work

Before proceeding with the assembly of the box, you need to carry out several preliminary activities.

  • Inspect all pipes to be hidden. Repair defects while communications are in sight. If a new pipeline is being installed along the way, try to minimize the number of connections.
  • Decide what kind of box the bathroom will have. It can hide only a small area where the pipes pass, or occupy a sufficiently large area. The advantage of the first option is to save material and there is no need to sacrifice free space. When choosing a larger modification, the additional space inside the structure can be adapted for storage of things.
  • silicone sealant;
  • pVC skirting boards to mask joints;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • sharp construction knife.

Making the frame of the box

When mounting the structural frame, follow the instructions below.

  • On the walls adjacent to the corner, install the guides (UD profiles), which will set the dimensions of the box. Do not forget to use the level. To fasten the bearing profiles to the wall, use European screws and dowels. If the surface is tiled, you can take self-tapping screws for metal 2.5 centimeters long and 3.5 millimeters in diameter. They are twisted into the seams between the tiles.

Tip: To save space in the bathroom, install the profiles closer to the pipes. The minimum distance is 3 centimeters.

  • If the pipes run horizontally, place the profile parallel to the floor and fix it on it.
  • Start forming the outer corner. Twist the corner post from the two UD profiles. Direct their shelves in different directions at a right angle and connect with small screws - "fleas".
  • Cut the CD support profile into parts whose length will correspond to the dimensions of the structure. Fix the corner stiffener to the wall. Insert the finished pieces of the profile with one end into the guide installed at the first stage, with the other into the stiffener. Thus, both parts of the corner are connected to the profile.
  • After every 50 centimeters, add jumpers, which are necessary for the subsequent fastening of PVC panels.
  • The second corner profile is attached in a similar way to another wall.

Sheathe the frame with PVC panels

After the supporting structure is ready, you can proceed in its casing. You need to do this in the following sequence:

  • Set the start profile. Carefully, avoiding deformation, fix it with the help of "fleas" on the installed guide.
  • Measure the strip of plastic panel of the desired length, cut it with a sharp knife.
  • Fix one panel in the start profile, attach the second to the corner profile and install it on another plane of the box. To connect, use all the same “fleas”, or “bugs”.
  • Assemble the second side of the box in the same way. On the last plastic panel, fix the start profile, then fasten it. If you do this with silicone, you can ensure yourself the ease of dismantling in the future in case of emergency.
  • Cut through the inspection holes in those places where you need unhindered access to the important elements of the pipeline: taps, meters and joints. Using silicone sealant, fix special hatches in the holes.
